Lost SIA Licence? What to do if your SIA licence is lost, stolen or damaged

Is your SIA licence lost, stolen or damaged? Here’s what to do.

Our northeast security courses include door supervision courses, close protection courses and more. All of our courses provide the qualifications to apply for an SIA licence, but what do you do if you lose it?

Working in security can be tough and the potential for loss or damage can be high, so our graduates frequently ask us what to do if you’ve lost your SIA licence. Below we’ll explain what to do if your SIA licence is missing/damaged/stolen, and how to get another.

Please note: we are not the SIA. Although this article will tell you what to do about your lost licence, please do not get in touch asking for help as there is nothing we are able to physically do for you beyond this article.

Lost or Stolen SIA Licence?

You must tell the SIA if your licence has been lost or stolen. If it’s been lost, log in to your SIA account and send a message through the ‘Notify the SIA’ tab in your personal account. You’ll need to explain the loss, and request a replacement.

If your licence was stolen, you’ll first need to report the theft to the police and obtain a crime reference number if possible. You can then go through ‘Notify the SIA’ tab again in your online account, and you’ll be asked for the crime reference number.

Damaged SIA Licence?

If you’re working jobs like close protection, door security or other SIA licenced work, then it’s a real risk that your licence can be damaged. If your licence has been damaged, go through the ‘Notify the SIA’ tab in your personal online account. You’ll be asked to return your damaged licence to the SIA.

How Much Does a Replacement SIA Licence Cost?

The SIA do not charge a fee for replacing a licence, although repeated requests for new SIA licences may be reviewed. Your replacement will have a completely different licence number than your old one.

Can I Work While Waiting For My Replacement Licence?

Whether it’s as a UK door supervisor, close protection officer or event security job, you can continue to work your profession without your SIA licence until your replacement arrives. If possible, you should print out your entry on the SIA register of licence holders and carry it with you at work alongside photographic ID. This will allow you to prove that you’re licenced if an SIA investigator or enforcement partner (like a police officer or local authority licensing officer) asks you to do so.

If you don’t have an SIA licence you can look at the affordable training courses we provide that will allow you to apply for one. Our Northeast SIA licence courses are conveniently located for students around Middlesbrough, Darlington, Hartlepool, Newcastle, Durham and more.

Wondering How To Get Your SIA Close Protection Licence or something else?

If you’re already working in an SIA role, you might be interested in finding different security positions that require a licence – after all, your second licence is cheaper if you already own one. For example, to those currently working door supervision: have you ever considered taking up the prestigious lifestyle of an executive close protection officer – AKA a bodyguard?

If you’re wondering how to get your close protection licence in the first place, you’ll need a Level 3 Close Protection qualification to successfully apply. For more information on the Security Industry Authority, you can view our handy SIA F.A.Q. – if you’re looking to learn more about the close protection course you’ll need to work legally, you can read more on our comprehensive close protection course article. There are also ways to fund this course – we can offer an entirely funded package or extensive ELCAS funding, so if either of these seem helpful then please get in touch.
